In 2013, under the umbrella of another organization, I accidentally started a nonprofit when my group of friends wanted to do a little good in the world. Two years later, we incorporated as Somebody’s Mama after completing several small fundraising efforts together through the power of community. From 2015 to 2020, we granted over $200,000 to accomplish our stated goals.
Somebody’s Mama existed to bring awareness to issues affecting women across the globe, to create a community of people who cared deeply about finding real solutions, and to turn ideas into action. Our vision was to invest in partnerships that empowered women across all cultures and people.
We did this through “Love Clubs” by raising awareness and funding grants for global projects focused on women’s healthcare, education, economic empowerment, and ending violence against women.
After raising over $200,000 to benefit women and communities around the world through the efforts of hundreds of people, I stepped away to focus on other priorities. Saying goodbye to Somebody’s Mama was a decision the board made together agreeing that sometimes things end because they have served their purpose.
